Alexandra and Matthew both went for eye tests this afternoon. I sat with Matthew while he had his test done and he was an absolute tropper. He was so co-operative with the optometrist. She tested his sight by asking him to indicate with two of his fingers which way the E was, his colour by asking him which figures were in the pattern (for that one she asked him his numbers and for him to indicate the figure on the page) and which animal was standing out more on the page to test his depth perception. To accurately test his eyes they had to put drops in his eyes, and even the optometrist commented (to him and to me) how brave he was because the drops did sting a lot. The initial assesment had shown that he is a little farsighted and his eyes are oval instead of being round. The end result of his test was that he has to get glass to wear when he is in the classroom. At the moment he is not phased at all about the idea of glasses, and he happily choose a pair that he likes - nice bright blue with orange on the ears of the frames.
Alexandra's test did not go well. It seemed like this was all too much hard work for her and she was not having any of it. Her eyes are not perfect either (had no chance with the genes that hubbie and I combined) and she needs to have another test in 6 months time. In the meantime I need to do some eye exercises with her to help her with her focusing and movement of her eyes. After all the hassle of the test she was very disappointed that she did not get glasses and it was unfair that Matthew gets glasses and she does not. This I think was the natural reaction that she must have what Matthew has, and then half of the glasses were pink.
Tomorrow or Wednesday Matthew will get his glasses, and then we will have to see if he is still okay with his glasses.
Testiculating Tuesday…

I remember throwing a strop when I was a kid because my dad bought us each a 101 Dalmations mug, but the dogs on my brother's mug had sunglasses on and mine didn't. We also fought about who got to sit in the front seat, whi got to go first, who got to push the elevator button... thankfully we grew out of it. I'm sure Alexandra and Matthew will too.
ReplyDeleteWell done to them both for getting through the eye tests - never fun, no matter how old you are.
Why don't you buy a pair of frames with just see-through glass in? I saw cool pairs at Jay-Jays for R99 each. I had to buy KK a pair as she has a fixation with sunglasses (like her mother)
ReplyDeleteIf it keeps the peace, why not?
Where is Jay-Jays? I may need to get her a pair, we picked up Matthew's glasses this afternoon and I got the whole 'its unfair' story again.
ReplyDeleteI never went for eye tests when I was a kid. I was in high school when I went for the first time and ended up with glasses!
